Supporting Our Most Vulnerable: A True American Value
"Systematically cutting Medicaid does not reflect this country's values." — Pete & Mary Jo Stofen, Sara's parents

Sara's Medicaid Story
"Let us introduce you to our daughter: Sara was born in 1981. I (her father) witnessed her birth and instantly knew something was seriously wrong. She was diagnosed as microcephalic and was expected to have a short life span.
Yet here we are. She’ll be 44 later this summer and, we know, she has been quite happy and is loved by all who meet her. Our wish is for that to continue in the future and Ray Graham, along with Medicaid, are integral pieces that will make it happen."
Did you know? The “prejudicial, discriminatory, and stereotypical perceptions and behaviors toward people with IDD from the broader society” can have “serious consequences for people’s participation, mental well-being, and overall quality of life.”

Why Medicaid Is Important to Sara:
"The threat of Medicaid services being eliminated or reduced seems to us to be an unconscionable act by persons unaware of those who truly need the daily support services that Medicaid provides to ensure a happy, engaging, and respectable life."
What Do Pete and Mary Jo Fear About Medicaid Cuts?
"We understand the current national attention about fraud, waste, and abuse and the focusing on cuts to Medicaid to achieve that. And we strongly believe Congress needs to seriously address that financial situation.
Yet, systematically cutting essential services within Medicaid for those who rely entirely on them does not reflect this country's values. All of us should be united on this issue.
We deeply appreciate the skilled work RGA has provided along with other organizations that our daughter was associated with over the years. Medicaid has made a significant difference in her life. We hope their work continues uninterrupted."
